Water Meter Scam
Dear Residents:
Under the standard operational procedure of the Water Department only one person is sent to a property to check and/or service a water meter. If for some reason two people are sent, both of them would work in the basement or one would be in the basement with the other being outside.
Under no circumstances would one go to the basement with the other staying upstairs.
All of our appointments are prescheduled with specifically listed dates and times. Emergency visits that require entrance to a home are coordinated through the office as well and we do not show up unannounced.
All of our employees have Town of Walpole identification badges and have been instructed to present them upon arrival. Employees will also be in Water Dept. or other credentialed Town vehicles, not plain privately owned vehicles.
We do on occasion have the meter system’s manufacturer in town to assist with maintenance and troubleshooting. They too have identification credentials and vehicles that read KP Electronics.
