Outdoor Water Conservation
The average American household uses about 30 percent of its water outdoors. Residential water use is usually at its highest in late July or early August.
Lawn watering, car washing, filling backyard pools, increased laundering and showering - it all adds up to more water consumption. In fact, during the summer, people use about four times as much water than what they use the rest of the year!
Much of summertime water use goes toward keeping lawns and landscaping green. Unfortunately, as much as 50 percent of landscape water goes to waste due to evaporation, wind, or runoff caused by overwatering. Some households lose up to 70 gallons of water each day!
To help conserve water outdoors, maintain irrigation systems on a regular basis and practice water efficient landscaping techniques.
