The Walpole Health Department wanted to follow up regarding the mailer which was sent out by our trash/recycling hauler, Boston Carting. There have been many questions regarding whether or not residents need to transition to toter style trash/recycling bins and if our collection contract has changed.

Please note, there has been NO change to our current collection contract. That being said, our hauler (Boston Carting) has new trucks with the mechanical arm that can accommodate the collection of the toters with the flip top lid. Since the collection contract hasn’t changed residents who fall under the towns collection, can continue to put their trash/recycling out in bags (trash) or regular bins/barrels if they choose.

The collection trucks can now accommodate toter style bins, and therefore residents can transition to toters should they wish to do so. It was noted on the flyer that there may be a supply of toters at the compost site on a limited basis. Boston Carting anticipates being able to acquire a limited amount of toters periodically from old contracts and therefore wanted to make them available to Walpole residents.

If and when Boston Carting acquires toters they will bring them directly to the Robbins Road Compost site. Due to the limited amount of toters being delivered, the Health department will not always know if toters are at the compost site, therefore Should you be interesting in getting a toter, you will want to stop by the compost site periodically (during operating hours) to see if there are any onsite. Residents are allowed to take one trash toter and one recycling toter, free of charge.

Since there has been no change to the contract, the automated toter system is not a requirement and therefore Boston Carting is not required to supply all residents with toters.

Should you wish to switch to a toter container for your collection and you do not want to wait as the timing of the toters being delivered to the compost site is uncertain, you may purchase toters on your own at the local hardware store. Individuals are also allowed to continue putting trash/recycling out as they always do.
