FYI-Proposed Gas Pipeline

A 21 mile high pressure methane gas pipeline is proposed to be constructed through Walpole, Franklin, Medway, Norfolk, Millis, Sharon, Canton and Stoughton.  The plan is part of a larger gas infrastructure project being proposed throughout the Commonwealth, the Atlantic Bridge. Houston company Spectra Energy, with investors EverSource and National Grid are the proponents.

 

Two meetings are planned so that citizens can be aware of the process.

 

First, the Walpole/Westwood/Dedham League of Women Voters invites you to attend an informational forum:

Walpole Public Library Community Room

143 School Street, Walpole

 

The forum will address the energy needs of the area, costs and best practices to fulfill those needs, and take questions from the audience.

 

The speakers will include:

 

Cathy Buckley from the Sierra Club

Terra Friedrichs, former Acton Selectman

Paul Lauenstein of 350MASS

A representative from the Mass. Department of Public Utilities (invited)

 

The Walpole Board of Selectmen will host Spectra, the company charged with building the pipelines so that Walpole citizens can be updated on the plans.

The The two meetings are intended to provide citizens with a clearer picture of the project.  It has been reported that funding for this undertaking will come from electricity rate payers across the state.
