DATE: Tuesday, October 24, 2023
TIME: 12:00PM-8:00PM (per MGL Chapter 71, Section 16(n))
LOCATION: Walpole Town Hall 135 School St.
There will be a vote on building a new Tri-County school building project on October 24th This project is projected to cost approximately $280+ million. The cost will be spread out over the eleven towns in the Tri-county district, pro-rated on the number of children attending from each community on an annual basis. The cost to Walpole is estimated to be $1.1 million+ per year (based on enrollment). This project will require a majority vote of all ballots cast in the Tri-county school district to pass, this is not just a Walpole decision, as the Town will be bound by the district wide vote.
This vote is governed by a plan for Vocational-Technical High School funding, dating back to the 1970’s. This plan allows the polls to be open for a maximum of 8 hours. The Tri-County school board have decided that the vote will take place from noon till 8:00pm.
